New Features Deployed to Non-prod
This update expands QAction's capabilities with new tools for external user engagement, smarter workflow automation, and continued investment in the modern UI experience and platform reliability.
What’s New in 5.38
New Features
- External User Portal & Login.gov Support — QAction now supports external users authenticating via Login.gov, with a dedicated portal experience for submitting and accessing forms. This lays the foundation for agencies accepting form submissions from users outside their organization.
- Modern UI Refinements — Continued quality and UX improvements across the modern interface, including a new Index Document task screen, filter drawer improvements, more reliable copy-values-forward on multi-file upload, and a sustained pass on UI bugs and edge cases.
- Inbox Import (Credentialed Mailbox) — QAction can now connect to a credentialed email mailbox and automatically route incoming messages into the document index queue, reducing manual intake steps for teams that receive legislation, regulations, or other documents by email.
- Native Round-Robin Task Assignment — Workflows can now distribute tasks evenly across a group using built-in round-robin assignment, eliminating the need for manual load balancing.
- Remote MCP Server — Foundation — Introduces the underlying infrastructure for a multi-user remote MCP server, designed to support secure third-party AI integrations against the QAction API. On-premise availability depends on each environment's security and access requirements.
Under-the-Hood Enhancements
- Form Submission Integrity — Reliability improvements across the forms platform, including more consistent submission processing, stronger cache and slug handling, and correct resolution of submissions whose linked workflow has been deleted.
- Workflow & Intake Routing Improvements — Workflow lane assignment has been improved to allow user field selection for the lane assignment
Bug Fixes
- Previewing email files (.eml) now handles attachments correctly, avoiding a misleading "content missing" error when browsing email attachments in the document viewer.
- The document preview pane in Grid view now honors the user's profile setting to suppress automatic preview on open.
- Opening a record now respects the user's full-screen or new-tab preference, and the record drawer no longer overlaps content on narrow screens.
- Classification Report no longer shows "Error getting index field" for DocType Security and Collections sections.
- The parallel workflow task screen in the modern UI now displays the correct assigned user rather than showing another participant's name.
- Form submissions now process against the published form snapshot.
- Form published-cache invalidation and slug/user race conditions have been resolved.
- Form submissions linked to a deleted workflow process now complete correctly rather than remaining stuck in progress.
- The Sign Document action now verifies the user has check-in privilege before initiating the signing process, and displays a clear message if they do not.
- SVG export of Workflow Definitions from QAction has been restored.
- Drag-and-drop document upload in the modern UI now enforces a file type check, preventing unsupported file types from being uploaded silently.
- Object types the user does not have access to view no longer appear in the list of available view types in the modern UI.
- Pending tasks no longer appear in the Active Task tab of the object task list.
- Workflow task completion via the QAction API now correctly accepts BPMN flow IDs as action identifiers.
- An internal error when logging document download exceptions for very long error messages has been resolved.
- Checking in a document now routes content to the correct storage location.
