Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge Web Browser configuration steps

This article guides you through the configurations needed to ensure common file types (such as .pdf, .docx, and .msg) open automatically in your web browser. Enabling this feature streamlines your workflow by reducing the number of steps required to access files within the application. This setup is especially important for users who frequently use the QAction add-in.

1. Click
Documents in the left panel

2. In the Classification field, start typing Web Browser and select the suggested path QAction/Supporting Documentation/Web Browser Configuration

3. Then click Search

4. The search results will display a singular document for each common file type extension. Click the first blue file type extension.

Tip: If you are using Google Chrome as your preferred web browser, proceed to the next step (5).
If you are using Microsoft Edge as your preferred web browser, proceed to step (8).

5. For Google Chrome users, you will see your File Explorer pop up. In the left panel, choose a preferred location to temporarily download each file type. Then click Save.
*Note, choose a location easily accessible so you can delete the documents once this exercise is complete

6. Next, locate the down arrow⬇️ in the upper right corner of the web browser. Click the arrow to open the downloads list. Then right click on the file and select Always open files of this type.

7. Open the downloads pop up, right click on the file type again, and verify that you see a checkmark (✓ ) next to the Always open files of this type option.

Repeat steps (5-7) for ALL file type documents rendered in the initial search.

8. For Microsoft Edge users, locate the down arrow⬇️ in the upper right corner of the web browser. Click the arrow to open the downloads list.

**If the file type that you are configuring is an EMAIL file type, the browser could potentially pop up a warning: <email file type> could harm your device. Do you want to keep it anyway? Continue by selecting Keep. Then proceed to step (10)

If your file type is NOT an email file, proceed to step (9)

9. Select the option to Save the file

10. Then right click on the file and select Always open files of this type.

11. Open the downloads pop up again, right click on the file type once more, and verify that you see a checkmark (✓ ) next to the Always open files of this type option.

Repeat steps (8-11) for ALL file type documents rendered in the initial search.
